Recent Windows Update MS13-081 killed Windows XP

On 8/Oct/2013 Windows Update for Windows XP had been rolled out with this article http://technet.microsoft.com/security/bulletin/MS13-081, however it didn't properly update Windows XP.

Here is the situation, I got call from my bro stated that his laptop has the below blue screen whenever he plugged in the USB mouse. He tried and plugged in the USB mouse in another PC without any issue.

The blue screen has the error code of 0x000000FC
Did search through the error code and found out a lot of suggestions. Some stated that it might be hardware failure, DEP (Data Execution Prevention), or Windows Update. After few rounds of checking, finally, found out that it was due to the recent Windows Update.

The following steps have been taken to prevent the blue screen whenever plugged in the USB mouse:

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. In the Currently installed programs box, tick Show Updates check box.
  3. Click the below Windows/Security Update, then click Remove.
    1. KB2883150
    2. KB2862335
    3. KB2862330
Remove the Windows/Security Update in sequence.
  4. After each remove, tick Do Not Restart Now to avoid restarting Windows.
  5. Download and install the Security Update of KB2883150.
  6. Restart Windows

Thanks for that. The most annoying part is that when I unplugged all USB devices, the desktop worked fine. If I plugged in anyone USB device such as USB keyboard, mouse, camera when the computer loaded into the desktop screen, it fell into the blue screen and reboot cycle immediately.
I had also tried safe mode, using the usb to ps/2 adapter for my mouse and keyboard with restarting the computer. Not surprisingly, they all were not working.
